As previously noted as an update to a previous article, we currently expect the Cala Homes and Free School Planning Application to be submitted in June/July 2014 although they may surprise us and submit it earlier.
We are continuing to build local support against the proposed 500 homes to be built on Green Belt land and are taking advice from planning and traffic survey consultants. We are also laying plans for a major publicity drive if the proposal should reach a formal planning application as gaining as much support from the local community will be essential. You can help with this, by encouraging your friends and neighbours to sign up for our free email newsletter so we can quickly inform them of important Green Belt developments in our local area.
The Chippings Farm Traffic Survey will be an important source of information so please read the article about the survey and if you can help by being an observer please get in touch.
An important consideration for the development of the Chippings Farm Green Belt site is the impact on the local traffic.
To understand this better we are conducting a Traffic Survey based on advice from a traffic consultant.
Our original intention was to perform the survey before Easter but due to the various roadworks and events at the ACS school it was felt that this would be unrepresentative of normal traffic flows, so the traffic survey will be taking place on Tue 29th April and Thu 1st May.
We have been delighted with the response by local residents to help with the survey and we have mostly filled all the one hour long sessions required. However to make it as comprehensive as possible we would like a few more volunteers to act as observers so we can include more local road junctions as part of the survey.
Our local MP Mr Dominic Raab says NO to Chippings Farm Development; he stated:
We sorely need extra secondary school places in Elmbridge and particularly in Cobham. I would love to see a free school built following the innovative example of the primary free school in Cobham. But it makes no sense locally to build a new school coupled with a housing development on the greenbelt, where all or most of the new places would be inundated by new demand from the extra development. On the one hand the Education Funding Authority (EFA) say they conduct estimates of the extra school places required for any such development. Yet, when I've asked the EFA for these estimates they have not been forthcoming. It just doesn't look like the EFA have done their basic homework.
The Wisley Action Group have recently launched their new website to keep local people aware of the issues involved with the potential development of over 2500 homes at the Three Farms Meadows formerly the disused Wisley Airfield.
Although not at a planning application stage at the moment, it has been included in the Guildford Borough Council's Issues and Options consultation so it does pose a real threat to Green Belt which is less than 3 miles from Cobham.
The Wisley Action Group (WAG) has identified the developer as a Cayman-registered property company backed by a hedge-fund company. The developer has set up a website (wisleyairfield.com) to promote the development of this 300 acre site and WAG say the developers PR company have also mailed a brochure to lots of councils around Guildford saying that if they support this proposal, it will 'solve their development problem' – in other words, save them from having to build houses in their own area. WAG have contested many of the claims made in the brochure and these can be seen here
If this huge Green Belt site was developed it would set a dangerous precedent for all Green Belt in the surrounding area.
